Media round-up: We Can Cut Crime launch

A quick round-up of some of the coverage for the We Can Cut Crime campaign launch from Ming Campbell and the Liberal Democrats:

  • BBC: “The Liberal Democrats have called for a more “honest approach” to crime, with life sentences “meaning life”. Party leader Sir Menzies Campbell said Labour’s record in office had been one of “abysmal failure” and that the approach has to be “smarter”.”
  • The Guardian: “Mandatory life sentences for serious crimes would be scrapped and short-term prison sentences effectively abandoned under plans unveiled by the Liberal Democrats yesterday.”
  • The Independent: “The Liberal Democrats have proposed that prisoners given life sentences should stay in jail for the rest of their life.”
  • Politics.co.uk: “Prisoners should be forced to work or go on training schemes while serving time, and any money earned should go to their victims, the Liberal Democrats have said.”
