Conservative leader to quit over expenses scandal

That’s the leader of the Conservative MEPs, Giles Chichester whose expense troubles I’ve covered (here and here). Both outrageous and ironic given he was in charge of ensuring the probity of expense claims.

The BBC has more on how an expenses scandal has engulfed him.

But that’s not the end of the expenses problems for the party in Europe, given as the BBC points out:

Meanwhile, another Tory MEP, Den Dover, has denied any wrong-doing in paying his wife and daughter a reported £750,000 for work over nine years.

UPDATE: Den Dover ended up being expelled from the Conservative Party and standing down as an MP. Controversy followed him to the end given the generous financial circumstances of his retirement.
