Sssh! Don’t tell anyone: MPs are going up in the public’s perception
The public hates MPs and all that. That’s been the tone of the coverage for the latest Ipsos-MORI polling into what the public thinks of MPs.
Here’s an alternative headline which you could also draw from that polling:
PUBLIC TRUST IN THEIR LOCAL MP HITS RECORD HIGH
Not a headline spotted so far. Funny that.
Here’s the detail, which shows the classic difference between what people think in general and what they think about something closest to their own experience.
This happens not just for MPs, but for hospitals, schools and the like too – the local gets much better ratings than the general.
(The other point to note about trust is that despite the doomsayers, the long-term trend data from Ipsos-MORI is rather positive.)
