Between a rock and a hard place

At the weekend, I sat in on a talk at the Liberal Democrat spring conference from a political scientist about what the polls say regarding the party. Given my often expressed scepticism about how well British political science really understands politics, and given how often I read information about the polls, I wasn’t sure I was making the right decision about which talk to hear. But very quickly it was clear I had, because Professor Paul Whiteley gave a clear, well-informed and persuasive talk which, despite covering in some respects familiar ground, kept on throwing up new ways of looking at things.

It’s well worth a watch in full: [but sadly no longer available online]

You can watch the other speakers at the event (Lorely Burt, Patrick Wintour and Ed Davey) too. All the videos are on CentreForum’s YouTube channel.

Thanks – and please forward

I hope you’re found this edition of Liberal Democrat Newswire interesting, informative, useful – or all three!
