Labour Mayor of Haringey found guilty of attempting to use her position for personal gain

As one of the local newspapers in the London Borough of Haringey reports:

Mayor of Haringey and veteran Labour councillor Sheila Peacock has been found guilty of trying use her powers of office to exert undue influence for personal advantage…

In a decision that will be an embarrassment to the Haringey Labour group, the committee ruled that Cllr Peacock had “attempted to secure an improper advantage for herself” and had “failed to use the resources of the council in accordance with its reasonable requirements”, and thereby “also brought her office as Mayor into disrepute”…

Cllr Peacock is the second Labour member in just three months to be found guilty of misconduct and disciplined by the committee, after Cllr Pauline Gibson was censured over “reckless” racism slurs against a constituent. [Tottenham Independent]

Apologies are nothing new from Sheila Peacock given her previous record of having to apologise for controversial comments about Tottenham and after insulting residents. On that previous occasion, she was Mayor too. You’d have thought Haringey Labour might have learnt from that before appointing her Mayor again…

Indeed, rather unabashed Haringey Labour’s Twitter account has been busy tweeting about how she is one of their candidates for the council elections and how her gala fundraiser is coming up.

Which made me wonder…
