The party’s reason for being is not to be part of the establishment, it’s to change the establishment

Here’s what I told the BBC this afternoon about the heavy Liberal Democrat seat losses in the 2014 European Parliament elections:

My basic point was that during the European elections the party sounded too much like the party of the status quo (‘let’s stay in Europe and keep things as they are’) rather than a reforming party that wants to change things for the better. That is particularly problematic when the overall public mood is one of looking for change.
