Colin Rosenstiel barred from standing for the Liberal Democrats

The Cambridge News reports:

Colin RosenstielEx-Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Rosenstiel has been found responsible of bringing the party into disrepute at a hearing of executive members of the party.

The Lib Dems released a statement saying: “It has been agreed that he will not stand again for public office on behalf of the Liberal Democrats.

“Mr Rosenstiel faced two charges of bringing the party into disrepute – namely not informing the party of an impending court case until after city council election nominations had closed, and subsequently having been convicted in Cambridge Magistrates Court of assault against a child.

I think the local party chair Spencer Hagard gets it right in the quote he gave to the press:

Spencer Hagard, chairman of Cambridge Liberal Democrats, said: “This has been an extremely difficult situation for all concerned. We are very sorry indeed that Colin’s many years of service as a councillor in Cambridge have come to an end in this way. But the public is entitled to expect high standards from public officials, and Cambridge Liberal Democrats do our utmost to ensure that those standards are upheld by all those who stand for election in the name of the party.”
