Controversial Tory councillor finally resigns from planning post

Guildford Conservative Cllr Monika Juneja, charged with seven offences under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act, the Legal Services Act and the Theft Act in a case involving claims that she falsely passed herself off as a barrister, has now finally resigned as the Lead Member for Planning on Guildford Council.

This followed the Conservative Group Leader belatedly asking her to quit.

Her resignation is welcome news because, as I said before:

Being charged with a crime isn’t the same as being guilty of one, but it’s still a serious matter. That’s why my rule of thumb for elected politicians is that if you’re charged you step aside from your posts, and if you’re convicted you resign your elected office.
