A simple sign of Gordon Brown’s troubles

Having Cathy Ashton appointed to one of the top two jobs in the new EU structures should have been seen as a foreign policy negotiation triumph for the British Government, getting someone from this country in the heart of decision making and power wielding in Europe.

But instead the story has been dominated by other issues – Tony Blair and David Miliband in particular.

Even when Labour gets it right, they shoot themselves in the feet. Classic government on its last legs behaviour.
