Former Islington Conservative candidate backs Bridget Fox

This just in from Islington Liberal Democrats:

John Szemerey, former Conservative parliamentary candidate for Islington South & Finsbury, has thrown his support behind local Lib Dem campaigner Bridget Fox.

“Bridget Fox and the Lib Dems offer the real change that Islington and Britain desperately needs” said John.

“It’s clear that at the next General Election, the Conservatives just can’t win here in Islington South & Finsbury. If people are fed up with Gordon Brown and his failed Labour Government, they should support Bridget Fox’s Lib Dems. The fact of the matter is that voting Conservative in Islington South & Finsbury will actually help Gordon Brown hang on.”

This news will come as a massive blow to Labour MP Emily Thornberry and her attempt to hold on in Islington South & Finsbury. Just 484 votes separate the Gordon Brown loyalist and local Lib Dem challenger Bridget Fox.

Local Lib Dem campaigner, Bridget Fox said:

“I’m delighted that John is supporting my campaign. Local people tell me that they me that they feel let down by Labour and want real change here in Islington South & Finsbury. I’ll be a strong voice for our area in Parliament. I’ll always put local people – and not party politics – first.”
