What will make ACT a success?
Over on Liberal Democrat Voice, the launch of the new Liberal Democrat social network ACT has been covered in some detail. I think the early signs are very promising and the plans for further technical developments looks good.
But the key to success is nicely summed up by the American Democratic ‘blogfather’ , Jerome Armstrong, who said of the Howard Dean campaign and its successful pioneering use of the internet:
It wasn’t the technology, it was the investment of people in the campaign.
It’s the people, not the technology, that matters the most.
Even great technology is left unused in the absence of enthusiasm. Enthusiasm triumphs over bad technology.
It’s about the people, not the code.
There are little tweaks they could do to make it less likely to put people off, though.
I hope (and expect) there will be a steady series of improvements as the system settles down and grows.
