Landslide for Charles Kennedy in Scottish election

Excellent news from Scotland about the former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Charles Kennedy:

CHARLES Kennedy, the Liberal Democrats’ former leader, was last night elected as rector for Glasgow University by a landslide majority.

Mr Kennedy, who is a former president of Glasgow University Union, won the ballot by a margin of almost two to one over his nearest rival.

As Glasgow University said after Charles Kennedy’s death, on creating a memorial fund:

Charles Kennedy had an enduring connection with the University of Glasgow, beginning when he was a student here in the early 1980s.

He studied Politics at the University, graduating MA (Hons) in 1982 and was President of Glasgow University Union from 1980 to 1981, winning the British Observer Mace for University Debating in 1982. He received an honorary doctorate from the University in 2001 and served two terms as Rector from 2008 to 2014.
