Simon Hughes’s conference diary “would frighten an insomniac”
That and more from this Thames News TV piece on the 1986 Liberal Party Assembly in Eastbourne:
The Liberal Democrat History Group has a short piece explaining the background to, and fall out from, the defence debate mentioned in the broadcast. Their site also has the text of Simon Hughes’s speech in full.
With his 25 speaking commitments in Eastbourne, Simon Hughes would, I suspect, have been a strong runner for the Simon Hughes Memorial Prize For The Most Simultaneous Fringe Bookings had I been dishing it out back then. (The real master of the simultaneous fringe booking, however, was Vince Cable’s 2013 diary wonder.)
Surely it was the Liberal Party ASSEMBLY, not conference.
True!
