Pizza Express: Haymarket, London

Haymarket Pizza Express is one of their outlets with a tightly compressed entrance floor and then stairs (circular staircase downwards in this case) to a roomier but gloomier second space.

In a traditional food outlet the lack of space on the entrance floor would result in the kitchen being squashed out of the way somewhere, but this is Pizza Express – so there it is taking up one corner of the entrance floor.

Also in keeping with Pizza Express tradition is the ever-varying Chocolate Glory recipe (no waffers this time, nor any hidden pool of chocolate sauce ready to be discovered oil-prospecting style). And as for the container in which the dough balls butter was served … well, let’s just say if I wanted a cheap, plasticy take-away style container I’d have gone for a cheap, plasticy style take-away. Why did I notice is so much? Well, that’s because I was resolutely staring at it for long periods of time as moving my eyes fractionally away would instead have given me the delight of staring at the toilet. Not the best seating plan, and to anyone who points out that I chose to sat at the table – pish. Why should it being my fault be a reason not to complain?

Good dough balls though.

Anyway, that’s 10 down and 118 to go (though eagle-eyed readers may have noticed that I’m resolutely refusing to believe that the number of Pizza Expresses in London may be changing; after all if the total were going up quicker than I’m going round…).
