Only 1-in-20 claim to be familiar with imaginary politician

Two things striking about this new Ipsos polling: how few people are familiar with Lee Anderson and (thankfully) how few people blagged it (or are drunk, trolling or wrong) by claiming they are familiar with imaginary politician Stewart Lewis:

Ipsos familiarty of politicians graph

Back in 2022, 6% said they knew a “great deal” about Stewart Lewis. I hope Ipsos start one of their long-running time series graphs.

  1. There are a few things here. Firstly, I am not entirely happy with the question. ‘Would you say you are familiar with?’ is I would say quite a complicated concept for certain demographics compared to the far more straightforward ‘Which of these politicians have you heard of?’. Nonetheless it is interesting that Anderson polls almost double his own (new) party leader, while both Green Party leaders (who, in my opinion, are both decent when doing media stuff) poll less than our imaginary politican, suggesting they have a big problem with cut through.
