Muswell Hill great-grandfather ‘dumbfounded’ by six-year-old tax bill from Haringey Council

The Broadway Ham & High reports:

Haringey Council takes six years to chase up billA great-grandfather from Muswell Hill is fuming after Haringey Council sent him a threatening reminder to pay a tax bill – from six years ago.

Widower John Adkins, 69, of Princes Avenue, Muswell Hill, has been left “dumbfounded” by letters from the council asking him to pay £164 for a missed payment, which he disputes.

Mr Adkins, who pays his council tax every month at the Post Office, said: “Anybody that pays two weeks late should get a reminder, not six years later.

“Why have they left it so long to do something about it?”

He was left scratching his head after he received a first reminder last month which did not specify when the outstanding payment was from. Mr Adkins assumed it was a mistake.

But when he received another letter on July 15, telling him legal action would be taken if he did not pay within a fortnight, he visited the council’s customer service centre in Wood Green.
