The Fried Chicken Shop: great TV even if you don’t like chicken

The Fried Chicken ShopTravelling recently and looking for something to fill the time, I watched the whole first season of the Channel 4 documentary, The Fried Chicken Shop. That sounds more impressive than it was as the first season contained all of one episode. But the show too was far more fun and interesting that I expected.

If you’ve not seen it, go watch The Fried Chicken Shop.

It’s a fly-on-the-wall documentary about a south London (you guessed it) fried chicken shop. There’s plenty to laugh at amongst some of the customers, especially the drunk person trying get the shop to start tweeting which ends up with a role play involving threatened murder. But at least the tweet included a hashtag.

There are also plenty of insights into people struggling to get by – including trying to work at the same time as going to college, dealing with mental health issues and what the impact of immigration is on the job market.

So even if, like me, you’ve not eaten chicken for over 20 years, it’s still a great show to watch.
