Read about former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Öpik. He was elected to represent Montgomeryshire in 1997, and held the seat until being defeated at the 2010 general election.
He was leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats 2001-2007.
Lembit Öpik also twice ran to be Liberal Democrat Party President, in 2004 and 2008. He was unsuccessful both times.
He was expelled from the party in 2021 after doing a ‘how to beat the Lib Dems’ session for the Conservative Party.
