Read about 2019’s big round of annual council elections, held on the first Thursday in May (2 May).

They saw the Liberal Democrats make the biggest round of gains in the party’s history (+704) along with very heavy Conservative loses. Unusually for the main opposition party, Labour under Jeremy Corbyn also lost seats, whilst the Greens and independents also saw gains.
